Hispasat is to enable live broadcasts via satellite of Spain's Teatro Real opera, both inside the country and abroad.

Through a newly signed agreement, Teatro Real will be broadcast to cultural centres, city halls, hospitals and other institutions throughout Spain and abroad, with a special focus on Latin America.

Hispasat will provide Teatro Real with space capacity to broadcast via satellite a maximum of 10 yearly live performances, enabling live operas in cinemas all over the world.

This initiative is similar to those being carried out in other opera houses, such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Royal Opera House in London.

Next July, Teatro Real is to return to cinemas with the live broadcast of the opera I Puritani, by Bellini, the opera house's last performance of the season
