Cellnex Telecom is to present the PLEASE project, a content platform for cloud-based distribution of Ultra HD products.

The advanced high efficiency platform for content distribution (PLEASE in Spanish) is a project led by the Cellnex group’s Retevision, in which CIRES21, SAPEC and the G@TV group from Madrid's Politécnica University (UPM) have collaborated.

The video encoding process is based on the H.265/HEVC system, which is likely to widely replace the current H.264/AVC to support 4K broadcasting quality as it allows the same capacity in half the space.

The pilot project, which is to be presented at the UPM on Thursday 26 November, will implement hardware decoders and a cloud-based system to support UHD TV resolution through the MPEG-DASH standard.

Very active within Spain's 4K industry, Cellnex also carried one of the first 4K live broadcasts on a DTT network using the DVB-T2 standard with high dynamic range (HDR) content during the 4K World Summit Seville.
