UK video compression provider V-Nova deployed its Perseus technology for Mediapro's Overon 4K broadcast of the El Clasico football game at the weekend.

The contribution was part of the first ever Ultra HD transmission of the match between Real Madrid and Barcelona, which was broadcast on Canal+ Liga via Telefonica’s Movistar+ fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service and other international networks.

The Perseus' P.Link solution managed Mediapro's Ultra HD live footage at the stadium and contributed to visually lossless content with ultra low latency at 240Mbps.

“We chose Perseus because it is the only commercially available video compression solution that can contribute multiple visually lossless video feeds over our 1Gbps telco circuits,” explained Overon.

“As a reliable, compatible and interoperable upgrade to the existing infrastructure, Perseus solutions offer service providers, operators and broadcasters the ability to deliver new Ultra HD services to paying customers economically and in record time, while being ready for future additional upgrades,” said Guido Meardi, V-Nova CEO and co-founder.

“Live sports, especially football, present a challenging use case for broadcasters when it comes to compression. We are deeply proud to work with industry leaders like Mediapro on this historic first Ultra HD transmission of El Clásico,” concluded Achtmann, V-Nova executive chairman and co-founder.
