China-based US media executive Dan Mintz is reportedly in advanced discussions to buy a controlling stake in Taiwan’s Eastern Broadcasting Corporation (EBC).

Currently held by the Carlyle investment group, Mintz is offering up to US$600 million for the stake in the cable TV network, according to Variety.

Mintz, the co-executive producer of Iron Man 3 and the forthcoming remake of Point Break, is the founder of production company DMG Entertainment and co-founder of its Chinese partner Yinji Entertainment & Media (Yinji DMG).

The purchase agreement is subject to regulatory approval, but on completion it would represent the first major investment by Hollywood player in the Taiwanese television and film industry.

“EBC offers tremendous growth opportunities in digital, Mandarin-language content, premium content creation and distribution, which will become the anchor platform for ongoing global expansion of Mintz’s businesses,” said a statement from the film producer.

Carlyle has been seeking to sell its stake in the cable company for some time. It launched its latest exit bid in August alongside EBC’s second largest shareholder Eastern Media International for at least $650 million.
