Frontier Communications is readying IPTV for a North Carolina launch and will roll out FrontierTV video service to select markets from January 2016.

“We’re really excited about this new offering in the Durham area in 2016,” said Dennis Bloss, VP and GM at Frontier. “Our brand new fibre-optic network and our robust copper network will combine to bring the best TV experience to our Durham customers. This is just one more way that Frontier provides our customers with the very best in service and technology.”

The service includes an on-screen guide and a DVR that allows six shows to be recorded at the same time. FrontierTV’s system can hold more than 500 hours of HD video per customer.

Even as it expands IPTV, the telco recently launched a trial of an over-the-top (OTT) service called Freedom TV. Following in the footsteps of DISH Network and soon, Verizon, the service will enable customers to watch their favourite local channels and TV shows on demand via streaming on their devices. It's also bundled with one-year free subscription of Amazon Prime and 500 hours of DVR offering.
