DirecTV has launched DirecTV On Demand throughout Latin America, a new pay-TV feature enabling subscribers to watch over 1,500 pieces of high definition (HD) video-on-demand (VOD) content.
The new á-la-carte platform downloads the selected content on the DirecTV set-top box (STB). The download can be scheduled through mobile devices and computers.
“DirecTV leads entertainment experience with a unique product so that our customers can watch HD content, which includes hits series, on their TV screens,” said Marcelo Torii, senior director for products, DirecTV Latin America.
The VOD service is available in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay for subscribers of the Oro Nexus and Platino packages. A broadband connection to the STB of at least 3Mbps is needed.
“People watch what they want, when they want. The on-demand trend also makes it easier to discover new programming and old content that wasn't initially watched,” explained David Mandel show runner of the series VEEP, speaking through DirecTV.
DirecTV On Demand offers VOD programming of networks like Animal Planet, Atres Series, Discovery, Food Network, Hola TV, Nickelodeon, Paramount or Sundance, premium content of HBO and Fox such as Entourage, Game of Thrones or True Detective, and films like Boyhood or Fifty Shades of Grey.
