A+E Networks and RTL Nederland have agreed a two-year collaboration to support advertising and sales activities for History and Crime + Investigation (CI) in the Netherlands.
From 1 January 2016, RTL Nederland will represent both History and CI in its spot and non-spot sales, including branded content and programme sponsorships.
“Our brands now reach over half of all Dutch homes so this is a great time for A+E Networks to join forces with RTL Nederland,” said Nicolas Eglau, COO, A+E Networks UK, and GM for Benelux, Nordics, Poland and South Africa. “With their proven track record of delivering highly effective ad sales strategies, RTL is the right partner to help us identify and deliver more valuable opportunities in this important market.”
Ton Rozestraten, CCO, RTL Nederland, added: “With the two A+E channels, History and CI, and our existing portfolio we are able to guarantee our advertisers more selectivity and reach.”
The announcement follows the news that A+E Networks UK – which includes the Netherlands in its markets – has secured a pan-European deal with Liberty Global. This includes the addition of History to the basic package on Ziggo in the Netherlands, making the channel available to 3.3 million of Ziggo’s digital basic subscribers, an increase of 2.2 million subs.
Among many other activities RTL Nederland fully owns and operates five FTA channels (RTL 4, RTL 5, RTL 7, RTL 8 and RTL Z) and three pay-TV channels (RTL Lounge, RTL Crime, RTL Telekids).
Earlier in the week, A+E made another move in Europe. It is expanding the distribution of History in Poland. The network has launched to more than 500,000 additional homes across the country on Vectra, one of the leading cable platforms in that country.
