Mitele, Mediaset's streaming and video-on-demand (VOD) platform for the Spanish market, is to deliver exclusive high definition (HD) content across Samsung smart TVs.

mitelehdAccording to Mediaset, Samsung has been selected to launch Mitele's first smart TV app due to the Korean brand's 40% market share in the country.

The launch marks the arrival of Mediaset's streaming to TVs, as the app was until now focusing only on mobile screens and Web platforms. The Samsung app will have integrated bit-rate technology, so that the video quality adapts automatically to each viewer’s broadband capacity.

In addition, through the latest audience measurement technology, viewers' behaviour will be monitored and will count in general audience figures.

The app enables live streaming of Telecinco and Cuatro's news programmes, access to fictional series including La que se Avecina, Aída and Gym Toni, and in-house formats such as Planeta Calleja, Cuarto Milenio and Televisa's adaptation Pequeños Gigantes.

Mediaset has also announced its advertising unit, Publiespaña, is working on how to commercially exploit free-to-air (FTA) content on different screens and adapt to changing audience behaviour.
