Online TV key for Venezuelan election

Venezuela's political opposition launched an online TV and streaming channel during the recent election, which it says was key to its victory.



Aiming to cover political information while avoiding the bias of many public TV networks, Unidad Venezuela launched a YouTube channel which has been live streaming for less than a week. During that short time, nearly 40,000 Venezuelans subscribed to the online video network and many of its videos and reports were shared across social media.

The channel offered interviews, political analysis and reports, in addition to live information on election day. Even though much of its programming was recorded in a studio, several reporters were also presenting through a Periscope platform.

With an online population of nearly 16 million people, Venezuela's Internet services consumption has rocketed in recent years. Indeed, eight in ten Internet users say they are actively consuming online TV and second-screen content
