Analysis from IHS Technology has shown that the brakes are firmly on for Europe’s pay-TV industry, with growth of just 0.4% in the second quarter of 2015, the slowest for five years.

Satellite showed solid growth with 97,000 subs added in the quarter but IPTV had spectacular gains, adding 935,000 customers. By contrast cable sank across Europe, losing 185,000 net subscribers.
Attempting to offer reasons for cable’s slump, IHS Technology proposed that the fall occurred when former analogue cable customers switched to other platforms as they adopted digital. On a brighter note it added that cables’ losses would slow as the digital transition progressed.
