The regional language TV channels of India’s Doordarshan will be off air for five hours on 10 December, as the public broadcaster takes up new satellite transponder space.

The regional services, currently beamed from INSAT-3A, will move to four new transponders on INSAT-4B. As a result, Doordarshan’s channels will be disrupted between midnight on 9 December and 5am on 10 December.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced its satellite INSAT-3A is nearing the end of its lifespan.

Doordarshan’s direct-to-home (DTH) satellite service Freedish has 64 channels including its own channels, and the parliamentary channels Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha TV.
