African telecommunications group Econet Wireless Global is set to launch a multiscreen pay-TV service called Kwesé TV.

The operator’s founder, Strive Masiyiwa, said Kwesé TV will offer premium and exclusive content and an affordable price point for the mobile generation, according to Zimbabwe newspaper, The Herald.

"This is because much of what is out there is either too expensive or just not worth paying for," Masiyiwa is quoted as saying.

"Kwesé TV will seek to leverage Econet Global's mobile DNA as well as Liquid Telecom's expertise in satellite and fibre infrastructure," he added.

Kwesé TV will be rolled out over the coming months across English-speaking Africa using the group’s existing satellite and fibre infrastructure, to smartphones, tablets, computers and TV sets.

The pay-TV platform, which is currently acquiring both sports and entertainment content, will have operations centres in Johannesburg and Dubai.
