In a stark indication as to who is driving TV these days, Netflix, Hulu and Starz have grabbed the lion’s share of nominations for the Golden Globe awards which will be held in January 2016.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave the Starz six category nominations for Outlander and Flesh and Bone. These include Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama for Caitriona Balfe in Outlander; Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Sarah Hay in Flesh and Bone; Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Patrick Stewart in Blunt Talk; and Best Performance by an actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Tobias Menzies in Outlander.

The news comes as Starz readies a standalone, over-the-top (OTT) streaming service, a product that will compete head-on with the liked of Netflix and Amazon, both of which also attracted nominations for Golden Globe for their original content propositions.

Subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) leader Netflix was nominated for eight awards in programmes such as Orange is the New Black and newly launched The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Amazon garnered five awards.
