In a context of general stagnation in Latin America, Peru's telecom services, particularly pay-TV and Internet, are clearly on the up, reports OSIPTEL.
Ahead of publishing its official telecom report, the Organismo Supervisor de Inversión Privada en Telecomunicaciones (OSIPTEL) has stated that pay-TV grew by 11.05% at the end of Q3 2015, mostly due to an increased demand for convergent packages.
General figures show the telecoms industry with a 10.10% growth, led by Internet services at 19.94%, explained OSIPTEL's president, Gonzalo Ruiz Diaz, in a meeting with the sector's executives.
Peru's pay-TV, which is cited to be one of the region's highest growing markets in the coming years, shows great pace in a context in which the industry in many Latin American countries such as Brazil and Uruguay, seems to be stagnating.
According to the latest official figures for Q1 2015, Peru nears 1.5 million subs, of which Telefónica's Movistar garners over 64%. The market is highly concentrated, as Telefónica, DirecTV and Claro own over 93% subscriptions.
