The first of the Intelsat EpicNG satellites series has arrived at the Guiana Space Centre, from where it is scheduled to launch by the end of January 2016.

Manufactured by Boeing and equipped with advanced digital payload, Intelsat 29e will bring high throughput capacity in both C- and Ku-band to Latin and North America, and is designed to be interoperable with the already-deployed Intelsat fleet and terrestrial infrastructure.

The EpicNG series has an open architecture built to address an expected $3 billion incremental increase in revenue opportunities related to a rise in demand by the year 2020 for satellite-based infrastructure.

According to Intelsat, the amount of data traffic in LATAM is expected to grow by 66% through to 2018.

Compania Anonima Nacional Telefonos de Venezuela, BT Latam Venezuela, Anditel, SAS, Axesat, Amazonia Cabo, Cadena Ecuatoriana de Television, Canal 10 CETV, Corporacion Nacional de Telecommunicaciones, Fox Latin America Channels do Brasil, Igrege Mundial do Poder de Deus, Radio e Televisao Banderantes and Telefonica del Peru have already committed to take advantage of Intelsat EpicNG.

Intelsat 29e is currently scheduled for launch on 27 January 2016. If successful, Intelsat 29e will be placed at the 310° East orbital location, where it will undergo in-orbit testing prior to its expected in-service date of mid-2016.
