A new independent video production company, Raconteur Associates, has appeared on the scene.
The venture, from former BBC Worldwide head of talent, William Miller, and Ruth Wrigley, All3Media’s former group head of entertainment and formats, will focus on developing high-end, non-scripted programming and formats for global broadcasters, including in the US and UK. Unlike other production companies, Raconteur Associates will focus on developing and retaining IP while working with third-party production companies and broadcasters on delivering content.
“The idea is to offer high-end, channel defining formats rather than focus on production,” said Miller, CEO of the venture. “Broadcasters have a real hunger for these ideas but are often loathed to commission young new indies. This model enables us to offer them something new and of scale, but to work with the best people for the job, be that in-house or a favoured existing indie.”
Wrigley added: "I am delighted to be working alongside William. His idea for Raconteur appealed because my real strength and experience is creating and producing big shows that are groundbreaking and innovative. Our pooled talent and experience is unlike any other out there and we are able to offer the broadcasters something they can't get elsewhere. William is my perfect TV husband!"
William added: “There has clearly never been a better time to be in the content business, especially if you can create and own the ideas, partner with the talent and work with a wide range of creative production companies to help deliver your ideas in ways that you might not as a standalone start-up indie. Joining forces with Ruth, who has to be one of the most exciting creatives in the business, puts us in a unique position to build a really broad business around this unique and previously under-exploited model.”
