BBC appoints CTO to lead new digital division

Matthew Postgate has been appointed to the position of the BBC’s chief technology officer, leading a new division that will bring together the corporation’s key technology teams.
RTVN 23 Dec 2015 BBC PostgateThe new role will have a global remit, encompassing the merger of the BBC’s Digital, Engineering and Worldwide technology teams. The new role will result in the closure of the current CTO role leading BBC Engineering, as well as the role of director, BBC Digital, and will see Postgate spearheading the digital strategy and technology operations that keep the BBC on-air, online and operational. With immediate effect, Postgate will lead the project to create the combined group, and take over responsibility for the new division from April next year.
Prior to his current role, Postgate was controller of BBC Research & Development and a director of YouView. He was part of the management team that launched BBC iPlayer and was in charge of BBC mobile, where he was responsible for building the corporation's mobile services.
