Two production houses and one TV network are among the media companies said to owe money to the Spanish tax office.

The Treasury Department has published a list of hundreds of defaulting companies which owe over €1 million to the public treasury.

Intereconomia Corporation, with a debt of €7.3 million, and its free-to-air network Intereconomia TV (€2.93 million), Grupo Secuoya (€2.3 million), Alba Adriática (€1.54 million) and Mediapubli Sociedad de Publicaciones y Ediciones (€1.62 million), a company owned by Mediapro president Jaume Roures, all appear on the list.

Secuoya, which was recently awarded with a free-to-air, national DTT network was quick to explain its financial situation, saying that the list refers to data as of 31 July and the company had reached an agreement with the Treasury Department to pay its debt in instalments by 3 August.

This is why Secuoya's offer was considered in the DTT bid, as the conditions specified that only non-defaulting companies were allowed to participate.

Media group Intereconomia has never recovered from last years' advertising crisis, and abandoned DTT almost two years ago. The group is continuing to struggle, accumulating a total of €10.23 million debt in taxes.

Responsible for TV hits such as Aquí No Hay Quien Viva (Atresmedia) and La Que Se Avecina (Mediaset), Alba Adriática is owned by José Luís Moreno.
