Rovi renews entertainment discovery patent licence with Sony

In the second major deal of its kind that the company has closed in the last week, Rovi has renewed its worldwide licence agreement with Sony Corporation.

With more than 5,000 issued or pending patents worldwide, Rovi’s entertainment discovery patent portfolio spans digital entertainment capabilities including interactive programme guides, search and recommendations, and multiscreen experiences that power personalised entertainment.

In the latest deal, Rovi will provide Sony with a licence to use its entertainment discovery patent portfolio for its consumer electronics devices worldwide.

This comes hot on the heels of a deal closed on 23 December whereby the search and recommendation services provider renewed its patent licence with US TV entertainment and telco AT&T.
