RTVE's new international network, Star HD, will start broadcasting 24/7 programming through the US and Latin America on 18 January.
Star HD, which has been in a test phase since August and currently airs an eight-hour loop, will cover the entire American continent on Intelsat's Galaxy 23 and Hispasat 1E and be exclusively distributed by pay-TV operators.
Although the Spanish public network hasn't announced a distribution agreement yet, it has said that various platforms from Chile, Argentina, Central America and Puerto Rico have shown interest.
The HD channel, which targets a potential audience of 400 million viewers, takes RTVE's international network total to three, along with TVE Internacional and Canal 24 Horas.
The programming will focus on fictional series and films produced by the public broadcaster, such as Isabel, Víctor Ros, Amar en Tiempos Revueltos, El Ministerio del Tiempo and Carlos Rey Emperador.
