Spanish pay-TV sector continues growth in 2015

The Spanish pay-TV industry saw its second year of growth according to official industry figures.
The CNMC has reported a growth in subscribers and increased penetration in the sector, with the 2015 TV audience report by Barlovento Comunicación confirming these trends.
According to the report, the pay-TV audience in the country grew from 17.4% in 2014 to 18.8%, averaging 6.7 million viewers and a 6.8% audience share, 0.7% more than the year before.
FOX, AXN, TNT, Canal Hollywood, Canal+ Liga, Comedy Central, Calle 13, Cosmopolitan, Canal+1 and AMC were the most watched themed pay-TV networks.
Although Q3 and Q4 2015 figures are still to be published, pay-TV now reaches 5.4 million households, a figure that has continuously grown since it reached its lowest point in September 2013 with 3.86 million subscribers.
DTT is the most popular technology, taking 80.6% of viewing time. This is followed by cable (10.1%), mostly used by regional operators, IPTV (5.4%), the fastest growing technology of 2015, and satellite (3.3%).
Investment grew by 8% during first nine months of 2015, reaching €1.42 billion by September. According to some reports, the sector will have exceeded the €2-billion barrier by December.
