Confirming predictions, Peru's official telecom figures show general telecom growth driven by pay-TV and Internet, which converge on increasing hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) network.
The Q3 2015 digits published by the Organismo Supervisor de Inversión Privada en Telecomunicaciones (OSIPTEL), show pay-TV grew by 11% compared with 2014, reaching 1.6 million households. Fixed Internet subscriptions (9.92% up) and mobile lines (9.18%) are the other two services growing the most.
According to the brief analysis of Peru's telecom authority, most of the growth is due to HFC network expansion across the country's cities and the improved convergent offers through fibre. OSIPTEL highlights the high penetration of mobile service, as Peru shows 112.5 subscriptions for every 100 people and nears 34 million active lines.
As in other previous reports, Telefónica and Claro are the leading operators. The Spanish telco owns nearly 65% pay-TV subs and 52.3% of the whole telecom business, with nearly one million TV households and 17.58 million mobile subs.
Claro TV has 225,000 (15% share) and DirecTV 205,000 (13.7%) are the other two largest operators, while the rest of the business is taken by local providers.
