As the expiration of a 2011 output deal with Netflix looms, the CW Network has revealed that it expects distribution to be worked out in the next six to nine months.
Mark Pedowitz, president of the CBS and the Warner Bros Entertainment joint venture, said he didn't rule out re-upping with Netflix.
However, some studios are reluctant to give Netflix too much leverage with global rights, including CW parent Warner Bros — a concern that’s been exacerbated by the streamers’ global launch.
The original Netflix deal, valued near $1 billion, made the CW profitable for parents Time Warner and CBS. It allows Netflix to distribute new episodes of the CW's older shows, but new shows this season including Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (fresh off a Golden Globes win last night) and the upcoming DC's Legends of Tomorrow will not be covered.
