MarVista Entertainment has acquired three new independent films to license for the world marketplace.

Daryl Wein’s Consumed kicks off the slate, examining the impact of genetically modified foods; Waffle Street depicts the true riches-to-rags story of hedge-fund manager turned greasy spoon waiter Jimmy Adams; and Raising the Bar cheers on an American gymnastic champion who must prove she has what it takes to compete in the international arena after her parents traumatic divorce finds her starting over in Australia.

“Our programming partners are always looking for timely, topical stories that examine real-life stories which is certainly the case with all three of these acquisitions,” said Vanessa Shapiro, EVP, distribution, MarVista Entertainment. “These independent films have attracted A-level talent to portray the intriguing characters and with a high production value.”

MarVista has been expanding its reach, especially in Latin America. Last year it acquired the Latin American rights to Little Battlers eXperience from Dentsu Entertainment, as well as to the Japanese animated TV series Yo-kay Watch, including licensing and merchandising rights in the region.
