After being trialled for several months, Spain's RTVE is premiering its third international signal, Star HD, across the Americas.

From today (18 January), the network will air regular 24/7 programming through an encoded feed for pay-TV operators.

The public broadcaster hasn't yet announced which pay-TV platforms will initially distribute the channel, but RTVE has stated that the channel has a potential audience of 400 million viewers.

The new channel will join TVE Internacional, the first international feed to be launched with similar programming to TVE1, and Canal 24 Horas, a news feed reaching over 100 million households.

Star HD is an entertainment proposal which will air most RTVE-produced series and films across North and Latin America. Among its content portfolio are series including Isabel, Aguila Roja and The Ministry of Time.

Through this launch, RTVE has become the second Spanish media group to have three operating international TV networks, following in the footsteps of Atresmedia, which last year launched its third signal, Atreseries.
