Sony Pictures Television (SPT) Networks is to air women’s tennis events across Latin America from 2017, following a deal with Perform Media Channels.

Next year, 32 tournaments of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) will air on Canal Sony and several TV everywhere platforms. The tennis programming will include the Premier and Premier 5 tournaments and the finales of the BNP Paribas WTA Singapore.

Following the rights acquisition, the company will deploy special programming with a team of tennis experts, although no names or specific shows have yet been unveiled.

“Live sports programming matches our brand perfectly, as we look for emotional experiences to involve the audience,” said TV Schultz, executive VP, SPT for Latin America and Brazil.

The deal was achieved through the UK's Perform Media Channels, worldwide digital media partner of the WTA.

“This agreement will enable us to enlarge our presence in the Latin American region, and expand our audience beyond the traditional sports fans,” said Bruno Rocha, executive VP, WTA Media.
