Chinese technology giant LeEco, formerly LeTV, has launched its smart devices into the Indian market and inked content deals with over-the-top (OTT) players ErosNow and YuppTV.

The Chinese technology developer and online video business will integrate ErosNow and YuppTV’s catch-up TV and video-on-demand (VOD) apps into its smart TVs and flagship ‘superphones’, Le Max and Le1.

A one-year premium subscription to ErosNow’s Bollywood films, music and original series will be bundled with the purchase of the smart devices. YuppTV will provide 250 live TV channels across 12 languages, as well as catch-up services, offering entertainment, news, movies, music, children’s, lifestyle and spiritual content.

“The past few years have seen rapid growth in OTT and video consumption through Internet-enabled devices such as mobiles and smart TVs. Through their multi-device and content ecosystem strategy, LeEco has been very successful in China,” said Uday Reddy, founder and CEO, YuppTV.

“The partnership with the global Internet technology conglomerate was successfully forged due to a natural chemistry and a synergy of vision between the two companies. We are confident that this association will help in optimising the value delivered to the end-users and take our extensive digital entertainment solutions to a larger audience.”

LeEco, which is listed at over US$14.06 billion (¥88.81 billion), sold four million smartphones in China in 2016. This year the company is targeting 15 million sales with its bundled deals of Internet-enabled technology and video content, said LeEco Asia Pacific CEO Tin Mok.

“We hope to replicate that success in India and wow the Indian consumer with our super phones and televisions packed with features. We are pioneers and innovators in the technology world and creating a seamless ecosystem has worked for us very well in China,” he added.
