Adele breaks YouTube billion views record

The song Hello from British singer Adele seemed like it was everywhere, and data from Guinness World Records confirms it was, smashing the record for quickest time to generate a billion YouTube views.



UntitledThe records company calculates that Hello reached the landmark in only 88 days after it was uploaded, almost twice as fast as previous holder PSY whose Gangnam Style took 159 days. Moreover, the agency reported that the artist’s come-back single received 27.7 million views in the first day after it was uploaded.

Such performance is hugely lucrative for the online video provider and artist alike. In December 2012, assessing the commercial benefit to the artist, YouTube revealed that a number of assessments and projections said that that Gangnam Style has generated over $8.1 million in advertising deals, and hit more than 2.9 million in song downloads in the five months since the song first appeared.
