Leading European production house FremantleMedia has taken a controlling a 51% stake in Israeli scripted reality and drama company Abot Hameiri.

Founded in 2006 Abot Hameiri has produced local versions international entertainment formats — such as The X Factor, Survivor and Amazing Race — and has a track record of developing and producing its own formats, as well as scripted output including Shtisel and the drama success A Good Family.

FremantleMedia sees Abot Hameiri as a key strategic acquisition, at the end of process where they sought a partner who they wanted to have a complementary creative approach and with strong relationships within the broadcast and production community in Israel. Abot Hameiri will be set up as FremantleMedia’s creative hub in Israel, providing a strong pipeline of content which FremantleMedia can then produce and distribute through its international global network.

“Israel is a highly creative market and this acquisition gives us the perfect entry point into Israel given Abot Hameiri’s established relationships with broadcasters and talent, breadth of genre offering and creative fit,” commented Sangeeta Desai, FremantleMedia COO and CEO Emerging Markets. “We couldn’t be more pleased to be working with [Abot Hameiri].”
