Argentina's over-the-top (OTT) platform Qubit.tv intends to start producing content while expanding across Latin America.
In an interview with NexTV News, Facundo de la Iglesia, Qubit.tv's CEO, said the platform is looking to become one of Latin America's main video-on-demand (VOD) players.
“We've just concluded the first stage of our regional expansion, opening the Colombian office and also launching in Ecuador before the end of 2015,” said the CEO. “In 2016, we intend to strengthen in those countries while growing in Central and South America, with Guatemala and Uruguay being the first territories.”
Mexico and Brazil, Latin America's largest markets by far, are also long-term targets for Qubit.tv, although the company said it needs to be a more mature service before launching there.
As with many other video platforms, content will be at the forefront of Qubit.tv's growth strategy. The company aims to increase the production of short, mobile-ready videos, connect the platform to local producers and directors and kick off production of its own series.
Although nothing has been decided, the OTT operator is open to both produce and co-produce its own format, probably a comedy series.
For Facundo de la Iglesia, VOD consumption is “a natural process, which is why many pay-TV operators have launched their own platforms”.
