Online giant Yahoo! has rushed onto court with a new basketball-centric digital destination.
The Vertical will aim to be the premier destination for all things NBA across desktop and mobile, providing what is claimed to be a ‘unique’ look inside the NBA with a stream of breaking news, in-depth storytelling, front office deal and global draft analysis.
“We are excited to launch this project… with a powerhouse group of writers, editors, analysts, producers and contributors,” said Bob Condor, vice president for Yahoo Sports Media. “Fans will quickly regard it as essential to following their favourite NBA teams and players.”
The Vertical editor Adrian Wojnarowski added: “Every day on The Vertical, we will be committed to pulling the curtain back on the NBA and delivering our audience exclusive, compelling content. We will be a 24-hour, seven-day a week news and storytelling operation. We will be relentless in pursuit of dominating the landscape of basketball media. That will be our charge every day.”
The Vertical will offer custom integrated advertising opportunities for brands to connect with basketball fans across screens. State Farm will be one of the first brands to connect directly with basketball fans as a premier sponsor of The Vertical. It says that it will connect with consumers through high-impact display and pre-roll video ads, as well as branded integrations around video content on The Vertical. The State Farm campaign will also capitalise on events such as All-Star Weekend to reach sports fans on The Vertical, and extend its campaign through pre-roll video, native video and display ads across additional Yahoo! properties.
