Videocon d2h added 670,000 gross subscribers in the quarter ending 31 December 2015 to reach a total of 14.95 million direct-to-home (DTH) TV customers across India.
Net subscriber additions totalled 430,000 to reach a net subscription tally of 11.27 million in the third quarter 2016.
The satellite TV operator reported 14.8% year-on-year increase in net subscriber additions and 8.2% year-on-year growth in ARPU for Q3. The company’s revenue from operations increased 21.6% year-on-year to INR7.314 billion in the quarter ending 31 December 2015, compared to INR6.015 billion in the previous year.
The nationwide cable digitisation programme, which has now reached its third phase, has helped drive subscriptions to Videocon d2h, the company said.
“In the first few days of January 2016, we saw strong pick up in subscriber additions in cities that come under Phase III digitisation. Recently, a few state high courts issued a stay order on implementation of Phase III digitisation for one to three months. This was in line with our expectations of the digitisation being a staggered process,” said Anil Khera, CEO, Videocon d2h.
“We estimate around 50 million television homes come under Phase III digitisation, of which 24-25 million television homes are already on the digital platform. Thus, the target market under Phase III digitisation is the remaining 25-26 million television homes that are currently on analogue cable.”
