Spain's public broadcaster RTVE has announced plans to produce its first format exclusive to its international network, along with several 4K productions.
Speaking during the first 2016 meeting of RTVE's administrative board, José Antonio Sánchez, the corporation's president, explained the plans to create a separated budget for Ultra HD formats, targeting new multiscreen audiences.
In addition, RTVE will produce a weekly show for the network's oldest international signal, TVE Internacional, during 2016 in a bid to link Spanish news stories with the Americas.
For the Spanish market, RTVE will produce 130 more episodes of the soap opera Acacias 38 and 146 of Seis Hermanas. In addition, a second season of the award-winning, Secuoya-produced Víctor Ross will also be filmed.
The new productions have been announced in spite of the growing deficit, to which 2015's activity is expected to add €70 million. The final results will be published in March, although RTVE's president has stated that the profit and loss statements will be balanced for the first time since 2007.
