Over 70% of the most-watched adverts in Spain in 2015 were broadcast by Mediaset's free-to-air (FTA) channels, claims the media group.
Mediaset closed 2015 with an average 31% share and a 33.1% commercial target, leading Spain's FTA ahead of its nearest competitor, Atresmedia, through its six networks – and it has been awarded with a seventh DTT signal. In addition, it averaged over 12 million online viewers per month on its various Web services.
Channel by channel, Telecinco was the country's most-watched network for every month of 2015 with an average 14.8% share, its best result since 2009. Cuatro (7.9% average share) has also registered its best figures since 2009, and FDF, a series channel, led the DTT themed networks.
At the same time as duopoly accusations are questioning Mediaset and Atresmedia's roles in the Spanish advertising market, Paolo Vasile's company said that 72% of the country's most viewed sports aired through its channel portfolio. Indeed, the ten first places on the ranking were broadcast by Telecinco.
