Australia’s Seven Network is set to launch a new free-to-air (FTA) movie and entertainment channel called 7Flix, adding to its current three-channel entertainment portfolio.

The network’s trailer for 7flix promises “movies to fall in love with” and “big shows that you can’t get enough of”, with clips from romcoms and shows such as Once Upon a Time, Seinfeld, Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal – as well as children’s TV programmes.

With the channel’s launch on 28 February, Australia’s metro TV viewers will have a choice of 17 FTA channels.

Rival FTA commercial operator Nine has also recently increased its channel offering with lifestyle-oriented 9Life, while SBS has introduced a channel called Food Network.

Seven, which will air action from the Rio Olympics later this year, also plans to screen 308 hours of fresh Australian drama in 2016, following last year’s trans-Tasman hit 800 Words, starring Erik Thomson.

800 Words, along with other local favourites, Home and Away and Winners & Losers, are also set to return to Seven in 2016.
