La Familia Telerín, originally produced for RTVE in the 60s and broadcast across Spanish-speaking regions, is being brought back to life through Televisa and Ánima Kitchent, and is heading to the US.
familia telerinFollowing an agreement between Mexico's Televisa and Spain's Ánima Kitchent, a 52-episode series will be produced, in English, with the aim of being aired in the US, targeting a multiscreen audience.
The original series, produced in Spain by Estudios Moro, is well known for the song Vamos a la Cama, a hit among the Hispanic community where parents use it to call their kids for bedtime. This will now become a mobile app with exactly the same goal.
The move follows last year’s agreement in which Televisa became the Mexican licensee for La Familia Telerín, and intends to build up an international kids’ brand across several platforms. The new series will be active on social media and has already deployed a YouTube platform with four short videos which have reached 53 million plays in just five months.
“We have an entertainment brand which is over 50 years old and is still a reference in some countries,” said Víctor M. López, CEO, Ánima Kitchent. “Now we are eyeing the international market and therefore are transforming the brand into transmedia content. In Televisa, we have found the best partner possible for this journey.”
“For the generations which grew up with La Familia Telerín, it is very gratifying to see the show becoming n international,” added Maca Rotter, Televisa Consumer Products' general manager. “The same characters that played in Latin America and Spain are to be part of this content conceived for the international market from the very beginning.”
