The latest report from Business Bureau has highlighted the key features that make Netflix recognized by nine in ten Latin Americans and the strongest over-the-top (OTT) brand in the region.

Despite there being 160 legal platforms offering live streaming and video-on-demand (VOD) through various business models, many Latin Americans are still choosing a pirate service, prioritising savings ahead of any other benefits.

Business Bureau's multiscreen, platforms & contents report analysed offerings and acquisition processes in both legal and pirate platforms, including Netflix, Cuevana and Pop Corn Time.

Usability, video quality, updated catalogue, working subtitles and languages features and streaming speed are among Netflix's strengths compared to its pirate competitors.

Despite being free, illegal streaming services were found lacking in usability and having too much advertising, two important factors when it comes to choose an OTT platform.

“The greatest disadvantage of many pirate services is the continuous pop-up of false advertising, which makes difficult to even find the real link to content and the virus threat,” stated the report.

“And if users manage to overcome these initial obstacles, quality is not always the best, sometimes even being a movie filmed inside the theatre.”

As the offer increases, many Latin Americans seem to be choosing premium OTT services like Netflix or Claro video over pirate platforms.
