As part of its portfolio for Mobile World Congress (MWC), Vodafone is to unveil its Spanish pay-TV plans, including a Chromecast platform.
chromecastAmong other many services to be shown at Barcelona's MWC next week, Vodafone is to showcase both its TiVo-based interactive TV platform and Vodafone TV Online, a TV everywhere service. The British telco is to unveil the new Chromecast feature, an application build for Google's device, which allows users to broadcast content from computers or smartphones on a TV and then continue watching it on the go.
Even though video seems to be a increasingly important part of Vodafone's mobility strategy, the star at MWC will be the 5G tests. Through the MIMO 8X8 technology, the telco has promised speeds up to 1Gbps while moving, enabling 4K video playing and virtual reality on mobile devices.
Big Data, 4G-connected cars, smart cities and cloud services will also have a place in Vodafone's booth at MWC.
The telco is a well-established player in the Spanish market, in which it has been increasing its efforts on pay-TV and video services during the last two years. Since ONO's acquisition, Vodafone is the country's second pay-TV provider, behind Telefónica's Movistar+, with more than one million subs.
