Fuse, a national US television network for the Latino and multicultural 18-34 audience, is to premiere First Frame: The Emerging Latino Filmmakers.
The original special showcases film shorts produced and directed by rising Latino filmmakers. The special will air on 4 March.
EJ Bonilla, Emmy Award and Imagen Award-nominated actor and winner of 2012’s Los Angeles Film Festival Jury Prize for Outstanding Performance (Four), has been tapped to host. The shorts span myriad genres including drama, family, horror and comedy.
“NUVOtv had a rich history of nurturing and embracing the unique, diverse perspective of the Latino creative community. I am pleased that we can continue to share these stories on Fuse,” said Rene Aguirre, vice president of original content, Fuse Media. “The passionate voices that emanate from this growing and influential sector of actors, writers and producers have become a crucial part of our collective American storytelling experience.”
A panel of judges was charged with choosing only six film shorts to feature from more than 500 submissions. The judges include Michael Olmos (Director of Filly Brown and winner of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury prize) and actor/writer Rafael Agustín (The Blexicans, Chipster, The Amateur). Each judge provides meaningful commentary on how the projects captured their attention and impacted their decision to choose these titles as standouts.
