Synacor has acquired privately held digital advertising pioneer Technorati which operates an advertising network that monetises desktop and mobile inventory across over a thousand publisher partners.

Technorati works with Contango, a real-time auction platform that works across supply-side platform, exchanges and networks. It also licenses a SaaS-based technology solution, SmartWrapper, part of the Contango platform, enabling publishers to scale their header bidder strategy with a demand-agnostic header bidder management and analytics tool. Based in San Francisco, Technorati reported approximately $7 million in revenue in 2015.

"Advertising is an important growth engine for Synacor," said Himesh Bhise, CEO, Synacor. "In the past year we dramatically improved advertising monetisation in line with our strategy to increase value for our customers. Combining Technorati's publisher network, SmartWrapper header bidder solution, and advertising technology with Synacor's existing portal network and monetisation engine creates a large-scale Media Solutions Platform. We welcome the talented Technorati team, which shares our ethic of being a trusted partner to customers."
