Movile, which develops mobile content and commerce platforms in Latin America, has selected Irdeto Rights to manage the multi-DRM support and content protection of its PlayKids platform, extending its device reach.

Irdeto’s DRM-agnostic solution, which includes support for Apple FairPlay Streaming, will protect Movile’s newly-licensed high-value video entertainment from Disney and The Cartoon Network.

Movile launched PlayKids in 2013 for children aged five and under. Movile recently launched more applications on PlayKids’ portfolio, including the ebook app Playkids Stories and the communicator PlayKids Talk. Both video apps contain popular age-appropriate video, games and books. As of February 2016, PlayKids is the No 1 children’s app in more than 25 countries and the No 1 grossing subscription platform for kids globally at the App Store. Additionally, the app has had more than 17 million downloads worldwide on iOS and Android devices since its launch.

The implementation with Irdeto will support hundreds of live streaming and download-and-go options for PlayKids on iOS and Android mobile devices, as well as Apple TV.

“Irdeto’s highly scalable solution enabled us to support live streaming and download-and-go premium content for the PlayKids apps across multiple devices, while remaining in compliance with our licensing agreements,” said Eduardo Henrique, co-founder and head of global expansion at PlayKids.

“Since deploying Irdeto Rights, we have been able to roll out our new premium entertainment offer quickly and cost-effectively, ensuring that children around the world can continue to enjoy the variety and quality of entertainment we are known for,” he added.
