While one in four Spanish viewers watch TV on the Internet every day, the rate of those paying for online content has doubled since last year.
video movilThe latest AIMC report about Spain's online habits shows how much the way of consuming video is changing in the country: over 25% watch online TV every day and nearly 70% watch it at least once a month. Even though computers are still the most used device, usage of mobile screens like tablets and smartphones is growing.
But in a country where the population aren’t used to paying for TV, the increasing online offer is changing this trend. During the year of Netflix's arrival and Movistar+'s reinforced bet on video-on-demand (VOD) and video streaming, the number of consumers paying for content has doubled. Over 21% paid to watch movies or series online in 2015, compared to 10.8% in 2014.
The report also shows that excessive advertising and low-speed connection are the main issues when using the Internet in Spain. In addition, high prices and security concerns also trouble the connected population.
Still, the Internet numbers are clearly on the up: over 40% Spaniards spend more than four hours per day online. Smartphones appear to be, for the first time, the most used device, followed by computers, tablets - although falling, these are the preferred screen on which to watch YouTube videos - and smart TVs, which are used by 26.1%.
