Atresmedia is taking its free-to-air (FTA) programming to the latest Windows devices through Atresplayer, its video-on-demand (VOD) streaming platform.

Even though Windows mobile devices have low penetration rates in Spain (under 3% of smartphones), Atresmedia is aiming for the VOD content to be available for any screen. Indeed, the app is available for computers, tablets, games consoles, Chromecast, and Samsung and LG smart TVs.

The strategy seems to be working for Atresmedia, one of Spain's largest free-to-air TV groups; last February Atresplayer reached over three million unique users for a fifth consecutive month. In addition, the app has been downloaded over seven million times.

The multiscreen platform is also helping Atresmedia to drive online video consumption. The company leads the Spanish market with 11 million unique viewers according to Comscore's February report, closely followed by Mediaset with 10.6 million.
