Stargroup, the parent company of Mexico's direct-to-home (DTH) platform StarTV, has signed a deal with Eutelsat Americas for Ka-band capacity on the new Eutelsat 65° West A satellite.
eutelsat stargroupLaunched just two days ago by an Ariane rocket, the satellite’s capabilities include a broadband payload with 24 Ka-band spot-beams, eight of which have been booked by Stargroup to power its new StarGo broadband platform across Latin America.
The StarGo service will complement Stargroup's DTH offer launched in Mexico in December and using capacity on the Eutelsat 117° West A satellite. The company plans to provide broadband services in Mexico, Colombia and Peru to support Internet access for both end-users and corporate sectors.
“Eutelsat has been an important ally in our growth and we are very happy to be broadening our offer to accomplish our goal of contributing to the technological development of Mexico and the rest of the continent,” said Julio Di-Bella, CEO of Stargroup.
“We are delighted once again to win the trust of Stargroup and to extend our relationship beyond TV broadcasting into the fast-growing broadband arena. This milestone reflects the core strength of satellite in promoting access to video and broadband services,” added Patricio Northland, CEO of Eutelsat Americas.
