now TV to host Hong Kong Sevens

PCCW’s now TV has been announced as host broadcaster of the 2016 Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens this April.


Subscribers to now TV’s IPTV service will be able to see full coverage of the rugby sevens tournament live on now Sports 4 in HD, complete with time-shift features, as well as catch-up via its on-demand service, and over-the-top (OTT) to smart devices via now Player.

Live full broadcast will be available on now Sports Prime via now Player for free, and select matches will also be available for general view via ViuTV, a free TV service to be broadcast on channel 99 from 6 April.

“Being Hong Kong’s ‘home of sports’, now TV is dedicated to deliver the greatest content to local sports fans, and this is the reason why we strive to bring you back this world-class event again,” said Loke Kheng Tham, executive vice president of pay TV, PCCW.

Ten HD cameras and a 100-strong production team will support the three-day event, which sees 28 teams from around the world compete, including 16 in the core team competition and 12 in the World Rugby Sevens World Series qualifier.

“Leveraging now TV’s range of innovative broadcast platforms will provide the ultimate access to the event for those not able to attend in person and will help spread the excitement and passion of Sevens to a vast local audience, a particular goal for us with rugby set to boom after its Olympic debut in Rio this summer,” said Vern Reid, CEO of the Hong Kong Rugby Union.

The Hong Kong Sevens will run from 8-10 April 2016.
