Indian pay-TV network Viacom18 has announced a host of technology providers for its soon-to-be launched video-on-demand (VOD) platform VOOT.

Over-the-top (OTT) video specialist Kaltura will provide the VOOT platform, complete with custom-built features for the Indian market.

The user experience and interface will be designed by US company A Different Engine (ADE), which specialises in building UX/UI for large multi-platform video streaming services.

Web Dunia will provide systems integration, as well as Web services and website development, while mobile applications are being developed by one of India’s Robosoft Technologies.

“In this business, product and technology play a pivotal role. While we work towards bringing popular and engaging content in this space for our viewers, we were equally focused on working with the best technology and design partners to build a world-class, differentiated product with superlative user experience,” said Gaurav Gandhi, COO, Digital Ventures, Viacom18.

The advertising-supported VOD service, which is planned for launch in early April, will focus on especially created content. In addition to the network’s portfolio – including its flagship channel Colors – original content will be provided for VOOT by Endemol Shine India, Saurabh Tiwari Films, Colosceum Media, Frames Production Company, Sunshine Production, Shakutantalam Telefilms and Bodhi Tree.
