Telecom Argentina's new owners to ramp up pay-TV operation

Telecom Argentina's new owners are planning to speed up its pay-TV operation in readiness for a future change to regulations.
telecom argentinaMexican financial entrepreneur, David Martínez, owner of Fintech, which has recently become a major shareholder of Telecom Argentina, wants to be ready to launch pay-TV when the new government changes the current competition legislation. The national government has currently frozen any moves while it designs a new route towards telecom convergence.
According to the Mexican newspaper El Economista, Telecom Argentina's new owners intend to increase investment on its fixed network in order to start offering triple-play services, including cable TV, for its over 19 million current customers.
Fintech has previous experience within Argentina's pay-TV industry, as it also owns 40% of Grupo Clarín's Cablevisión, the country's largest cable TV operator.
“Fintech wants Telecom Argentina to become the main telecom player, which is why a strong investment plan is being prepared in order to deploy 4G and fixed infrastructures to enable the company to add value through video services,” Martínez told the paper.
