Sub-Saharan pay-TV operator MultiChoice has announced there will be no more price hikes for its DStv satellite service in markets outside South Africa this April.

Barring external economic shocks, the South African-based company said it does not foresee further price increases in 2016.

Countries including Uganda, Kenya and Nigeria have seen subscription fee increases of up to 20% for MultiChoice satellite TV packages, while Zambian subscribers faced increases of between 21% and 30%.

MultiChoice Africa said it pays for content and much of its operating costs in dollars, and has been forced to pass on price increases because of external economic issues.

As part of an Easter promotion, however, MultiChoice is opening up five of its premium channels to DStv Compact subscribers until 4 April. In addition, DStv Extra subscribers will receive without charge the two channels not already included in their pack. The channels in question comprise: E! Entertainment, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Lifetime and Nick Jr.
