Chile's VTR catches the stream with Lollapalooza festival

Over a million Chileans watched Lollapalooza 2016 through VTR, a quarter of whom streamed the festival live.
lollapalooza chileSince the popular alternative music festival started expanding from the US, Latin American versions in Chile and Argentina have seen audiences grow.
According to VTR, Chile's largest pay-TV platform, viewing figures exceeded those from 2015 on every platform, particularly video-on-demand (VOD) consumption which rocketed by 243%. However, most people preferred to watch the event live, and only 35,000 chose the VOD option.
Nearly one in four (230,000 viewers) followed the festival through VTR's streaming platform, while the rest selected one of the four linear channels with Lollapalooza-related programming.
In addition to broadcasting, VTR entered the social TV conversation through the hashtag #VTResLollaCL, which generated over 26,000 mentions during the two-day festival, nearly 30% more than 2015 edition.
The Chilean telco is Lollapalooza's official sponsor in the country, and was also in charge of providing connectivity through three Wi-Fi hotspots inside the festival venue. According to the company, 10,000 people used the service, with 28% using it to upload videos from their devices.
