Argentina and Mexico are the two first Spanish-speaking countries in which YouTube has introduced its kids’ content app.
youtube kidsSince it launched Youtube Kids a year ago for most English-speaking territories, Google’s YouTube has been preparing to enter Spanish-speaking markets to reach the growing community of young online video consumers.
YouTube hasn’t unveiled further launches as yet, but its Spanish launch is expected soon.
Available for Android and iOS mobile screens, the online video app has achieved nearly ten million downloads from Google Play.
YouTube Kids is designed for children aged up to five and aims to involve parents in both the app configuration and control of watching behaviour.
“There was an explicit demand from parents who are looking for safer online environments for their children. YouTube Kids is designed for families and kids, who are enabled to explore their own curiosity in a more appropriated way,” explained Antoine Torres, YouTube Kids manager for Latin America, speaking to the Argentinean newspaper La Nación.
The online video app is similar to YouTube’s main site, but carries a content curation process which avoids any inappropriate video being recommended.
